3 Signs a New Hire is a Poor Cultural Fit
A cultural fit issue is not necessarily a reason to let an employee go, but it should be addressed for the well-being of the individual and company culture overall. If these signs are present, it’s time to sit down and have a REAL conversation.
1. They come in late, or not at all – This is the neon sign of cultural fit issues; if you are having trouble getting your hire into the office or showing up to your scheduled Zoom calls, they probably aren’t a good fit. Engaging with company culture requires showing up. If they cannot do that, it doesn’t bode well for their involvement beyond their job responsibilities.
2. They seem miserable being at work – The way we show up matters. Authenticity is critical to engagement, but if someone consistently shows up to work as if they’d rather be anywhere else, it’s a sign they aren’t meshing into the company culture. Energy is contagious, and one person who hates their job can bring down the mood of the entire team.
3. Fluctuation in productivity – Some fluctuation in productivity is to be expected. Your employees are people and that means that life can get in the way – but a downward trend in productivity, particularly in the early stages of employment, can be a bad sign for their trajectory in the organization.
